Amy Schumer on why she’s not changing her last name
The comedian is a married woman — but she won’t be taking her hubby’s name.
During an Instagram Story posted on Sunday, March 11, 2018, Amy Schumer revealed that she has no plans to change her last name since getting married to boyfriend Chris Fischer. And, in speaking with her father in the video, Schumer clearly has a very good reason.
“Are you still Amy Schumer or are you Amy Fischer now?” Schumer’s dad asked her in the social media post (via Us Weekly).
“I’m not Amy Fischer!” Schumer responded. “Do you remember who Amy Fisher is? The Long Island Lolita.” She added, “No, I’m keeping my last name. I’m keeping your last name.”
Schumer then laughed and used the hashtag “longislandlolita.”
For those unfamiliar, Schumer was referring to Amy Fisher, otherwise known as the Long Island Lolita, who shot her lover Joey Buttafuoco’s wife Mary Jo when she was 17 years old. The incident occurred back in 1992. Mary Jo survived, and Fisher went to prison for seven years before starting an adult film career upon her release (via People).
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Schumer and Fischer tied the knot in a surprise ceremony in Malibu, Calif. on Feb. 13, 2018. Her friends Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Aniston, David Spade, Larry David, and Judd Apatow were all present for the ceremony.
Discussing newlywed life, Schumer told the SiriusXM show You Up With Nikki Glaser, “It feels f**king good!” Noting that it still feels “novelty,” she recalled a sweet moment with her husband, stating, “Somebody went to sit next to [Fischer] and he’s like, ‘My wife is sitting here,’ and then I got back and he was excited to tell me that he said that.”
Schumer’s also admitted to saying the word “husband” maybe a little too much since getting hitched. “I just have been really overusing it to a degree that’s insane,” the Trainwreck star shared. “Like, when it’s completely uncalled for.”
Honestly, we couldn’t blame her though — she’s in love!
