Here’s what Matt Lauer had to say about Today show replacement

What does the former Today show anchor think of his successor?

Matt Lauer apparently didn’t take too long to respond to the announcement about the NBC News program’s newest co-anchor, Hoda Kotb. Speaking with E! News, Kotb revealed that the disgraced TV journalist wished her well on the morning of Jan. 2, 2017.

“He was sweet this morning. Certain texts popped up, and there was one from Matt: ‘Congratulations!'” Kotb shared. “And he said some nice words.”

She continued, “It meant the world to me to hear from him,” adding, “It was really nice.”

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Lauer was fired from NBC News after a female employee allegedly filed a complaint against him, accusing him of sexual harassment. Since then, others have come forward with stories about Lauer’s alleged inappropriate behavior (via Variety).

Soon after his termination, Lauer released a public apology, stating, “There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions. To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry.”

On Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2017, the Today show’s Savannah Guthrie announced Kotb to be her new co-anchor. “It’s 2018, and we are kicking off the year right because Hoda is officially the co-anchor of Today,” Guthrie told viewers. “This has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made, and I am so thrilled.”

While we wait to hear more from Lauer, read about the shocking truth behind his Today show firing.
