A mum has said she was raped by a drunk passenger in a plane toilet – and accused the airline of dismissing her complaint.
Aubrey Lane, 32, said in a lawsuit that the predator followed her into the bathroom and attacked her.
She said she was on an American Airlines flight between Phoenix and New York City, when the alleged rape happened in June 2017.
Earlier in the flight, another female passenger had warned about the man’s behaviour, the lawsuit claims.
American Airlines says it will “thoroughly review” her complaint.
According to reports in the US, her allegation was initially dismissed as a nuisance claim.
Mrs Lane’s lawsuit says: “Knowing the clear dangers of intoxication and the sexual assault threats, especially on red eye flights, American offered no protection to Aubrey Lane… despite the verbal warnings of Passenger 12C and the obvious obnoxious, aggressive, threatening and intoxicated behavior of Passenger 12B.”
The rapist was not stopped when the plane arrived at JFK Airport, it is claimed.
Speaking to Dallas Morning News , Mrs Lane said: “It’s caused stress on every level.
“It’s hurt my job, my homelife. It’s affected every single part of my life.”
In a statement published by the Daily Mail , American Airlines said:”We are deeply troubled by any allegation of misconduct onboard our aircraft or at any of our facilities.
“If our crews discover or are told about any alleged illegal misconduct that may occur on the aircraft, law enforcement is contacted and will meet the aircraft upon arrival…
“It is up to law enforcement to determine what, if any, criminal activity took place.”
As the alleged attack happened in the air, it is a matter for the FBI, which has yet to comment on the investigation.
